About Lincoln MMA

We are Lincoln's first complete MMA gym - featuring submission grappling, kickboxing, self-defense, yoga, and fitness training. Lincoln MMA is the home of Team Viper, a competitive MMA fight team. Although competitive fighting may be the most noticeable aspect of Lincoln MMA, we also encourage non-competitive, fitness-style training. Training that includes kickboxing and submission grappling is a fun alternative to a traditional fitness routine. For those of you who may enjoy the softer side of training come try a Yoga class.

Kickboxing: Our kickboxing class is based on boxing principles, muay thai principles, and with an emphasis on fitness and practicality. Whether you just want to kick and punch the bags and mitts or if you would like to progress to sparring, this class can accommodate you.

Submission Grappling: This class and system of training is based on concepts from several grappling arts such as wrestling, judo, hapkido, and jujitsu. You will learn how to engage an opponent in close quarters and submit from there or take it to the ground. Takedowns, throws, balance manipulation, leverage, ground control, reversals, and submissions are all part of this system. As in the kickboxing class, you can train as hard as you like. Whether you want to just practice technique and drills or if you would like to free roll, it's all up to you. Safety is paramount in all sessions and workouts. You take it to the next level when you are ready.

Team MMA Practice: These sessions are for the competitive MMA fighters only. If at some point in your training you express a desire to compete and have adequate training and commitment then you may become a member of this team. These workouts are intense and serious. We combine the kickboxing and submission grappling. One must learn how to transition from a stand up striking to a grappling position with fluidity. Our grappling practice in this class also includes strikes. Our normal group submission grappling class does not include strikes. The kickboxing practice includes takedowns as our normal group kickboxing class does not. Of course, we put it all together and do complete sparring which is the most intense part of the workout. On Saturday mornings we meet for approximately 1.5 hrs. for conditioning work. Here we utilize aerobic and anaerobic cardiorespiratory work, muscular strength and endurance drills, as well as balance and stretching exercises. This work is not done with fancy equipment but rather is an old fashion hardcore bodyweight conditioning session. I want to make sure that conditioning is not the weak link in the competitors game.

Self-Defense: Self-Defense is a critical part of combative training. Self-Defense may share some similar techniques as its sport counterpart, but not all techniques and methods of training are the same. On the street there are no referees and/or rules. In sport, one may know who the opponent is way in advance, but on the street you may have no warning at all as in an ambush type situation. Our self-defense training is divided into three phases (I, II, III). There will be two sessions per week for four weeks in each phase. In phase I participants learn the basic physical components such as strikes, kicks, covers and blocks, footwork, angles, balance manipulation, attention disruption, among others as well as basic psychology and principles to personal safety. Phase II consists of Realistic Scenario Training (RST) and Threat Assessment and Rapid Response (TARR). RST begins to implement phase I components from real life situations. Not only does the situation become realistic but so does the psychological stress through role playing. Aggression levels at this point are increased to parallel real life aggression. Phase III continues RST and TARR with more in-depth practice. Phase III will require the use of full-body armor. This non-restrictive armor will allow participants to engage in nearly 100% intensity. Weapon defense and multiple attacker situations will also be practiced in phase III. Phase III will focus on the ambush type situation. Participants must complete phase I before going to phase II and complete phase II before going on to phase III.

Yoga: This yoga class is a blend of traditional practices. However, it would most closely resemble a power vinyasa class. Sometimes the focus is on the flow, sometimes it is on strength poses, and other times the focus is on the meditation. This class is for anyone wanting to learn and/or better their practice. Whether you are a beginner or and advanced practitioner, this class has something for you.

It is our mission to promote martial arts, yoga, and fitness so that many people can come to learn and enjoy the various aspects and benefits of training.
